When I discussed activating cloud flare for my site with you you said that it was not a good idea, because it would slow my site down. Why are promoting cloud flare if it will slow my site down?6 years, 4 months ago texoKeymaster
A lot has changed in the last few months! Because CloudFlare had no datacentres in South Africa, I always recommended that websites which cater to a South African audience rather not activate it.
I always recommended it to our overseas clients, though.
But, in late December 2014, CloudFlare opened up their first African datacentre, in Johannesburg. So now I can recommend CloudFlare to all our clients.
Here is the announcement from CloudFlare, dated 16 December 2014:
CloudFlare opens its first data center in Africa
For all of our partners in southern Africa, we are excited to announce that we have just opened our 30th data center, located in Johannesburg. This is already resulting in significant performance improvements, in South Africa itself, we have seen decreases in latency from over 300ms to as low as 3ms, a 100x improvement. Customers have also seen speed improvements have seen boosts in speed in other locations in southern Africa, such as Zambia. If you’re a partner located in southern Africa, now is the ideal time to promote CloudFlare to your customers.
